Explore the Snake River Greenbelt
If you love the serenity of rushing waters and a day by the water, then the Snake River will impress you. The Greenbelt is a winding area that is five miles on each side of the river. People love to walk around the waters, fish, and just get close to nature here. There is both a north and south trail and they each have astonishing sights to see. Bring your poles and throw out a line or two. It’s one of the best ways to spend the day. While you’re here fishing for trout, you should know that this very area inspired Norman Maclain to write “A River Runs Through It”.
Hike to Mesa Falls
If you like history, you want to visit the Mesa Falls. This area was carved out nearly 1.3 million years ago. It sits majestically 114 feet in the air. It’s nothing to catch a sparkling rainbow hanging right over the water’s edge. This area is right on the edge of Yellowstone National Park, which provides ample opportunities for camping. The site is managed by the Targhee National Forest, and they say that fishing in Henry’s Fork nearby is sure to bring a good catch.
Tour Minnetonka Cave
Be sure to bring your camera when you head to Minnetonka Cave. Nearly 20,000 people each year head northwest of Bear Lake to see the stalactites, stalagmites, and banded travertine ceilings that these caves offer. With more than a half-mile of natural beauty, it’s unlike anything you’ve probably ever seen. This cave is one of the largest limestone caves in the entire state.
Lamoille Canyon
Located in the Ruby Mountains, Lamoille Canyon is a great place to unwind. One of the main reasons why people come here is to fish in the Lamoille Creek. With an elevation of 7,200 feet, it’s quite a hike to the top. There is a desert island that is just hopping with wildlife. There are sparkling lakes and streams to enjoy, and don’t forget about the wildflower meadow that is just breathtaking. Many say the Groves of aspen and cottonwood trees make gorgeous pictures for fall visitors. Fly-fishermen come here for the rainbow trout, but the campgrounds here are also pretty neat. It’s a great place to spend a couple day and enjoy all nature has to offer.
Idaho Balloon Rides
If you like the feeling of being outside and the wind wrestling through your hair, you simply must take the Idaho Balloon ride. Looking down on the area through one of the infamous hot air balloons is certain to spike your adrenaline. From April to October, you can take a sky high ride with the clouds. Children will love the feeling of going up, up and away. It’s a great way to see nature from a whole different view.
