Sick Child Care Advice: How to Take Temperature for Young Children

One of the worst things that can happen to a parent is a sick child. Just the feeling of helplessness and worry that comes with can really be overwhelming. Not only that but can also be quite stressful and can even make you sick (quite literally). It doesn’t matter if it’s something serious, or something benign, you need to be always prepared and to be fully informed. And what can make this all even more complicated is the fact that some kids simply won’t let their temperature be taken? However, if you want to learn how to deal with this kind of situation, and how to handle it perfectly, then read on.

So, your child has a fever. This can be caused by an infection, since the body activates its natural and inherent defense mechanism, in order to combat said infection. Another thing that can happen is that they get a fever during the immunization process after they get vaccinated. However, before you start treating your child, you should actually be sure if they actually have a fever, as well as how serious it is.

Now, there are a number of ways to actually check this. You can check it orally (place the thermometer in the mouth), rectally (place it in the behind of the child) and you can also place it under its arm. However, a new line of forehead thermometers is an excellent choice. An unruly child (or simply a child that is in a lot of pain because of the fever) may make it difficult to actually have its temperature taken. Forehead thermometers, on the other hand, are non-invasive. All you have to do is use this state-of-the-art technology, place it on the child’s forehead, press the button, and you will end up with an accurate reading. Based on infrared technology, they will give you an accurate and precise reading in seconds, every time.

Now, you should also know what to do if the child has a high fever. First of all, give them a lot of fluids. It doesn’t matter if its tea, water or soup. Do, however, avoid sodas, because of the sugar and caffeine. Also, give them lots of fruit. If the child doesn’t have diarrhea, it’s a good idea to give them a standard meal. They need their nutrients, to stay healthy and provide the body with energy to actually fight the fever. Also, they should get as for much sleep as possible. Try to avoid using antibiotics (unless the doctor explicitly says so). The reason for this is that too many antibiotics can have detrimental, long-term effects, to the child.

Well, there you have it, folks. We truly hope we have helped you, and your sick child. And don’t worry, a child getting a fever is a regular part of life, and, while scary at first, will soon toughen you, and your kid, up. And the forehead thermometer is perfect for all those unruly and difficult children since it’s very simple to use and quite non-invasive.
