When I was younger my parents never really taught me the importance of oral health. Don’t get me wrong, they told me to brush my teeth but they didn’t really teach me how important it is. Over the years I have had many feelings regarding dentists, as  I HATE going with a passion! I can’t stand having someone right there in my face messing around, and it bothers me to no end. So, I decided I was going to do better for myself and my family. I was going to have the best smile! I will admit going to the dentist is part of it, but it’s not all. You have to practice great oral health habits and what better way to do that than with Colgate!

On a mission I went to Target (because that’s were the deals are) to find all the oral health products that I would need for my family. What better way to get kids excited than to get them involved? So I brought them along on my mission. Did you know that it’s good to change your toothbrush every few months? With that in mind I decided it was time for everyone to get a new toothbrush. The kids were pretty excited. Bryson got a Transformer Spin Brush and Zoey O got a new Dora Spin Brush. I also let them pick out whatever toothpaste they wanted. I figured if they picked out what they wanted they would be more willing to use them. Let me tell ya, it worked like a charm! I actually had to tell them enough was enough with the teeth brushing, because they were wanting to brush their teeth at least five times a day! I guess I could have worse problems!!

Not sure what a good oral health routine is? Here are some tips:

  • Brush at least twice a day.
  • Floss once a day.
  • Use a regular or electric (or spin) toothbrush with soft bristles. Be sure to replace it regularly.
  • Use a small amount of toothpaste, about the size of a pea. The best toothpaste has fluoride and the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance.
  • If toothpaste causes problems such as swallowing, try using a sensitive toothpaste, alcohol free mouthwash, or just water.
  • Brush each tooth gently, front and back.
  • Brush the tongue. Rinse the mouth. (That’s were I went wrong. I never used a mouthwash until recently. I have tried a couple different ones, but Colgate Total was my favorite!!)
  • Let the toothbrush air dry.

I mentioned above the Colgate Total was my favorite mouthwash. The other mouthwashes I have tried left a strong and overwhelming taste/smell in my mouth. It’s hard to explain, because it’s not really a taste but you know what I mean. My favorite Colgate Total was the Peppermint Blast. It didn’t leave a weird taste in my mouth. It was just perfect. It left my breath smelling pleasant, which is perfect for not only you but also those near you.

One evening Bryson, Zoey, and I were doing our nightly brushing regimen. Bryson (my six-year-old) saw me using my mouthwash and started asking questions. I wasn’t for sure what age would be appropriate for them to use mouthwash, but I figured if he’s asking about it why not give it a try. I began giving him the run down on mouthwash. I explained how it helps keep the germs away and makes your breath smell good. I told him that it’s very important not to swallow that we spit it out. He then asked the question I was waiting for; “Can I try it?” Just look at him…he’s becoming a pro at Oral Health! Check out all the fun we had shopping for our new Colgate Total Mouthwash, Toothbrushes, and Toothpaste!

  1. It’s good to introduce the kids to good oral health habits early on. I love electric toothbrushes. My son wasn’t doing a great job using a manual toothbrush so I bought him an electric one and he loves it and his teeth are super clean now.

  2. My kids are total toothbrushing geeks. They love a toothbrush when it’s new, spins, shines or sings. They love any and all mouthwash, so this is a great chance for me to do something good for them. My daughter has a prescription mouthwash right now, but my son is TOTALLY into the mint breath during baseball season. I have no idea what the connection is – but we’re gonna try this for sure. Great pictures, too!

  3. I have wondered how this mouth wash was. I want to try it. I try to change our tooth brushes every 6 weeks, better safe than sorry.
