Organizing Your Family Car to Maximize Space and Minimize Clutter
Perhaps your car is beginning to look and feel like a cluttered mess. There’s stuff everywhere, and you can’t find anything you need. In that case, it’s time to organize your car to minimize the clutter and maximize your space and comfort. Not sure how to begin? Try some of the following tips.
Clean Up and Clean Out
Your first step in organizing your car is to clean up and clean out. Take everything out of every nook and cranny in your car, and go through it. Throw out what you don’t need. Put everything else in piles to indicate where it will find a new home. When you’ve finished this, scrub out your car’s storage compartments with soap and water so that they’ll be ready for your stuff once more.
Make an Organization Plan
Next, sketch out an organization plan based on your car’s storage space. That way, you can personalize your storage solutions based on your needs and your car’s features, whether you have a top new Toyota for sale on the market or an older model. Decide which items you want in various spaces, and draw up a diagram to show how everything can fit.
Find Storage Organizers
Now you’ll want to do a little shopping, especially if you don’t have much in the way of storage organizers. You might look for a purse organizer for your central console storage area. With one of these, you can tuck away small items in various pockets and compartments so that they don’t get lost and you can find them easily. You can even put things in labeled ziplock bags or small photo storage cases for extra convenience.
Consider purchasing hanging storage units that fit over the back of your car’s front seats. With one of these, your kids can tuck their books, devices, small toys, and art supplies away neatly. You can add a couple hooks for backpacks, bags, and jackets so that everything stays off the floor.
Your trunk may be another area of special concern. Think in terms of plastic boxes or baskets that are sturdy and will hold your stuff. You can use twist ties or zip ties to link them together, and this will prevent them from sliding around randomly in your trunk.
Don’t hesitate to use special organizers for other areas of your car, too. The glove compartment, for instance, could use a few enclosed containers for small items or folders for your insurance papers and other documents. You could even tuck a car visor organizer over your visor to hold your sunglasses, money, cards, and other items you want to get to in a hurry.
Get Organized
Now is the time to get your car organized. When you’ve sorted your stuff, made your plan, and purchased the storage containers, you’re ready to put everything away neatly. Be meticulous about this, and make sure everything has a place of its own. Then teach your family members to put things back where they found them so that your newly organized car remains neat, clean, and decluttered. You’ll love riding in style with more space to move and relax.
