Have You Gotten Your Flu Shot? It’s National Influenza Vaccination Week!! #NIVW2014 @CDCFlu
Flu season is upon us – again, and I’m not happy about. When my son was just over one and for some reason we didn’t get the flu shot. Let me tell you that was the biggest mistake ever! The flu hit our house and bad! Before we knew all three of us where at the hospital. My husband was admitted to get fluids, my son was admitted for several different reason, and I just had enough were I didn’t feel great but could take care of my family. After all us moms don’t get sick days. My son had to get blood drawn and he was so dehydrated so it was hard. It was bad enough I had to leave the room in order for them to do it, because I was very tempted to stand in front of my son to block them all away like a momma bear. But it needed to be done. That winter scared me enough that I do not miss a flu season without all five of us getting a flu shot.
Let’s face it no body wants to get the flu. It’s not fun for you or your family. If your family is like mine they share everything! Including germs. It always seems a sickness can last a month in this house. With one member being sick each week. My son learned quickly just this week that missing school wasn’t all that fun when you are sick. He was grouchy and I got to clean up and do a lot more laundry! With that being said it’s important to take the right steps to prevent getting sick. I’m excited to let you know about National Influenza VaccinationWeek, or NIVW. It was established in 2005 to highlight the importance of flu vaccination through the holiday season and afterwards!
I can’t say it enough…Get Your Flu Shot!!
Did you know that every year 20,000 children are hospitalized every year due to the flu and its complications? Many of them die. Children under five years of age are at higher risk of serious flu complications, and children younger than two even more so. With two little girls under five I think a couple of seconds of a little pain is well worth it!! That’s all it takes is seconds to do! Those few seconds could save your little ones life!!
Remember, it’s never too late to get your flu shot. Even if you manage to make it through the most active part of the flu season, you’re still at risk for contracting the flu as far into the spring as May. So get that vaccination.
Ready Or Not Here it is!
My husband is a teacher and all three of my children go to school. In my opinion when your kids start school their immune system gets a hit. Germs are EVERYWHERE!! Over the past two weeks the school was hit with a stomach bug. Lots of kids were missing school. Including my son, luckily he didn’t have the flu just a little bug. The flu is A LOT WORSE! But a lot of these kids had the flu. Ready or not the flu season is here!
Power is Knowledge!
The peak of flu season is between December and February. ( I got our flu shots three weeks ago!) I wanted to be prepared for the Holiday rush! We travel and are around lot of people. Meaning it’s the perfect breeding ground for the flu. Every year there are over 53,000 deaths due to the flu and pneumonia – a common flu complication. The vast majority of these deaths are children, the elderly, and those with chronic health problems.
The flu is an evil evil bug just waiting to attack you and your family. What’s the best way to stop an attack before it happens? Be prepared! Get on the information about the bug and get the protection you need (such as the shot!!) and then you are ready to protect and defend your family. You can never know enough about something that can harm your family!
The Flu Guide for Parents provides detailed information for parents on the seriousness of flu illness in children, how to protect them, and how to care for children with flu illness.
