Terrible Two-sday: “The shoe won’t fit!!”

Terrible Two-sday : The shoe won’t fit!!

Carly Jo just turned two in July. She’s my youngest (and third) child. You would think I had a clue on how to handle terrible twos. I thought I did. I was prepared. However I learned an important lesson. Every child is different. Carly Jo is the hardest one yet to deal with. She has a temper unlike the others. She’s also very determined which causes a lot of her fits and screams. (Boy is she a screamer!

terrible two

Look at the face…doesn’t she look so happy!! Do you want to know what caused this face? Her shoe wouldn’t fit. She got into her bucket that I keep all of her shoes and apparently I hadn’t clean it out yet (my next week project) and she found a pair of shoes that she wanted to wear but was a size maybe two sizes too small. I kept trying to explain to her that it was too small and told her to go get her other shoes if she wanted shoes on and I would help. This lead to this:

terrible tuesday

At this point I realized reasoning wasn’t going to work. I walked her into her room, set her on her bed, and shut the door. It took about ten minutes of constant screaming and then she started playing on her bed quietly. The fit was over.

What would you have done? Do you have a story of a terrible two or need a little advice on a terrible two? I would love to hear about it.

Each week I will share another story of terrible twos…it could be yours!

  1. I can’t say for sure as neither of mine had many tantrums but my first instinct is I’d put them on so they knew they were too small and would hurt. That or just a big old no.

  2. That darn shoe! At least he’s adorable when he’s mad. 🙂 You are so right though about every child being different. I guess we never can really truly be prepared.

  3. she’s adorable.

and we don’t give attention to fits and temper tantrums. never have. even in stores. it’s hard to reel them back in when they are so little, too!!

  4. Oh my… I can relate. My son has been getting upset that baby clothes don’t fit him, and we resort to quiet story time several times a day. It is all I can do to keep him from having a rampage.
