Guess What? It’s National Boys and Girls Club Week. It’s going on now until April 13, 2013!

Boys and Girls Club America mission is:  (according to site)

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Core Beliefs : A Boys & Girls Club Provides:

A safe place to learn and grow… Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals…Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences…Hope and opportunity.

Boys and Girls Club America opens their door to serve millions of kids across the nation and even on military installations overseas(I didn’t know that!) by offering a place for them to grow and have a great future. They provide caring guidance and fun, engaging programs that help kids: do well in school, give back to their communities and choose healthy lifestyles.

National Boys and Girls Club week is when more than 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs open their doors for  community members to come in a visit. So they can see for themselves what’s going on. So they can see how important and special these clubs are! However if you aren’t luck enough to have one near by (I am not either); no worries you can take a virtual tour as well! If you aren’t sure where one is you can visit their site and click on find a club on the right in the middle .

Clubs will also be planning fun daily activites for club members, their parents and the entire neighborhood. Some of the events are teen forums, carnivals (My kids would love that!), health fairs and many more!

The schedule for this year’s celebration is:

Monday: April 8- open the door to education.

Tuesday: April 9- open the door to technology.

Wednesday: April 10- Open the door to character and citizenship (I feel this is very important! So many times the little things like this gets left behind.)

Thursday: April 11- Open the door to healthy lifestyles.

Friday: April 12- Open the door!! Go take a tour either in person or the virtual tour! You will be amazed at what they do!

Sometimes I think one of the many problems with teenagers is that there is too much unproductive free time on their hands. I strongly believe that Boys & Girls Club America is doing their part to help solve that problem and give them a life that they can feel proud of!
