flash cards

What’s your favorite subject? Mine was math. I loved everything about it. I loved that there was no words and you just had to solve the problem. It was simple to me  and I didn’t have to study for it. English was a different story for me. I was constantly struggling to retain the information, but no matter what I did it wouldn’t sink in.

We tried flash cards, but honestly I could see the answer through the cards. So it was easy to cheat. I wasn’t really force to remember the definition and to learn it. I did what I could do to skate by. Little did I know that I would actually need to retain this information for when I was older. My son is getting older and sadly it’s getting harder for me to help him on his homework. I hated that feeling more than anything. I want the best for him and the best is for him to learn and retain it. So I did what I do best, turn to the web to find ideas that will actually help me to help my son learn.  That’s when I found Cram.com.

My son loves games! He will do anything that had to do with technology. So we turned the electronic flash card app into a game. He loved it! I personally love any educational game.  Each time he got a flash card right we added a nickel to his piggy bank. He thought was fun and enjoyable to do verses it being “work.” I can now quiz him on some words and he actually knows it! He doesn’t have to look at a flash card, cheat sheet, or anything else. He is retaining it. I call that a success! I can relax knowing that I am doing the right thing and helping my son the best way I can. In fact later today is my son’s parent teacher conference. I can’t wait to hear how he is doing. I suspect all good news!!

How do you help your little one study?
